India The world Champians...!

India won the 2011 World Cup defeating Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni led from the front with an unbeaten 91 as India finished at 277 for 4 in 48.2 overs. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir scored a splendid 97 for the men in blue.

An inspiring, unbeaten 91 by captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni helped India score a comprehensive six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final of the ICC World Cup at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday. It is India's second world title, coming 28 years after Kapil's Devils scored that famous, albeit unexpected, win in England against West Indies.

Gambhir scored a valuable 97. However, it was Dhoni who was the star of the show. The man who led India to the inaugural World T20 title in 2007 was at his imaginative best again

A few decisions I have taken, including why I brought in Sreesanth instead of Ashwin and why I promoted myself in the batting order ahead of Yuvraj who has been in great form. It could have been that the decisions cost the match. We have been hearing a lot of things during this tournament and so it feels great to win the World Cup. I always wanted to give chance to give chance to younger players by sending them up the order. On Saturday, I thought I would take the responsibility myself. It was more like proving myself and not to others," he said at the post-match presentation after India beat Sri Lanka by six wickets in the summit showdown here.
